In March of 2015, I gained an invite to guest post on Blogging Tips.
I gobbled it up. Even though I feared the opportunity because I feared being criticized, being ignored and wasting my time here.
1200 guest posts later in August 2020, I am still going strong. I actually took off quite a bit of time from guest posting on BT for many months after I dove in with 2 guesties; I only published 2 guest posts the first year. But for some reason, I recall writing and publishing this post immediately after I left the remote jungles of Costa Rica:
I got a bit clearer after writing and publishing that post. Slowly but surely, I began guest posting more regularly after that.
Guys; if you care less about numbers but care about having fun helping people, the numbers grow. But if you care deeply about numbers and care not much about helping people, the numbers do not grow. This goes for traffic, profits, guest posts published, blog posts published, or anything online. However, few blog for fun. Most blog for money. Is it any wonder why so few bloggers guest post 1200 times during their blogging career, let alone, on a single blog?
I publish this guest post not to put the spotlight on me but to help you understand how to be prolific. If I can publish 1200 guest posts on one blog, imagine what you can do with your blogging career if you blog mainly for fun and allow the results to take care of themselves? Get caught up in helping people freely. Promote yourself too; I link to at least one of my eBooks via virtually all guest posts these days. Keep helping folks. Solve common problems in your niche. Develop long term bonds with readers by choosing to guest post frequently on a collection of blogs in your niche versus publishing one guest post on 10,000 blogs. Share the wealth but stick around to become familiar to readers. Build bonds fostering greater success because going pro depends on building strong friendships with fellow bloggers and readers.
Most of all, gobble up opportunities to help people through guest posting. Way too many bloggers shy away from guest posting – as I almost did when asked to guest post on this blog in 2015 – and struggle to gain any traction online. Seize the moment. Help people freely. If someone offers you publishing rights, publish a high volume of helpful, beneficial guest posts targeted for your ideal reader.
If bloggers invite you to guest post and encourage you to guest post whenever you want to guest post, take them at their word. Do not be shy. Do not fear guest posting too much. I even guest posted multiple times daily before being told to reign it in a little bit on Blogging Tips. I had too much fun helping people. I slowed down a little bit. But I have guest posted almost daily on this rocking blog for years because given the free reign to do so, I happily seize and use this opportunity to help you and to help me.
That’s successful blogging in a nut shell; have fun helping people. Fall in love with serving readers and care little of stats, metrics and all that jazz. The numbers you achieve seem mind-boggling to most folks. But to you, everything feels like a bonus, an extra, or icing on the cake.
