What do I like about Kajabi?
- The best thing I like about Kajabi is how it houses the best features in the marketplace of online tools. For example, It has a funnel builder called Pipelines which works like ClickFunnels.
- Then, it has a powerful email automation tool that can give ActiveCampaign a run for its money. And, has a website builder with a WordPress like CMS. Needless to say, the Kajabi system is well integrated.
- Kajabi’s user experience is quite intuitive. It is very easy to jump into Kajabi having never used it before and still be able to figure out things.
- Kajabi has a resourceful customer support team available 24*7 on instant chat. This is helpful for those of us who need a quick turnaround time on our issues.
- Kajabi has a slick community management feature. For example, members can mark their comments as comments, questions, or answers. This helps keep up the engagement rate in your membership sites using Kajabi.
- Kajabi allows for a ton of design and layout customizations. This ensures that your course and website pages stand out from the rest. It also has a few templates to get you to start off with customization.
What I don’t like about Kajabi?
- Kajabi lacks a gamification system to enhance the learning for your students. For example, you can award students with certificates after course completion with Kajabi. But, to make students complete the course, one needs to incentivize them. This kind of gamification is done well by Thinkific with features such as badges, scoring, and leaderboards.
- Kajabi’s price point is much higher than other LMS available on the market. And, if one is a beginner and has little to no business income as of now, then paying for Kajabi doesn’t make much sense.
- Kajabi has a lack of customization options for emails. For example, a welcome email does not allow for images, rich media, and other customizations for personalization.
- Kajabi puts a strict limit on the number of students and courses you can host for each of its paid plans. This is even after you have paid a hefty price for the platform itself. You can find more about these limitations in the Kajabi’s pricing section of this post.
One of the best and my favorite parts of Kajabi is its funnel builder called Pipelines.
Kajabi names funnels as pipelines.
Pipelines will help you build entire sales funnels and workflows for your courses. These are a recent and most valuable addition to Kajabi’s suite of features.
For example, if you are a new course creator and you want to let’s say build your email list first. Then Kajabi can help you set up workflows for a free ebook or course giveaway.
And, Kajabi is also one of the few tools that have an internal capability to build sales funnel workflows.
Hence, it makes the entire process of marketing and selling the courses an easy one.
Kajabi has everything from course creation to sales funnels all in one place. It is convenient if you will sell products like e-books, courses, and memberships.
Kajabi provides you with sales funnel templates such as a free report or ebook giveaway or a zoom webinar funnel.
You can also build your own sales funnels from scratch just like with a sales funnel builder like ClickFunnels.
Let’s say you select a Zoom Webinar funnel. Then Kajabi will lay down all the steps of the funnel itself in a flow chart manner. This is where you can also edit each step of the funnel and customize it according to your needs.
This Zoom webinar funnel also helps you set up the email marketing. This includes a series of emails that go out as webinar reminders to create hype. And, it also includes post-webinar emails to help you sell the products or upsell.
You can easily change the copy, design, and landing page copy for each step of the funnel. You can also change the mailers’ copy. All this can now be done within a few minutes which earlier took hours to set up.
Bottomline: Kajabi is one of the few online courses selling platforms that have a sales funnel builder. It has winning templates for different kinds of sales funnels which you can customize to your requirements or prepare a sales funnel from scratch.
Kajabi is a great marketing tool for course creators, but you can’t ignore the quality of your course. Creating a great learning experience and community around your course is essential.
Let’s look at the course creation process in Kajabi.
Kajabi also has blueprints for your courses, like it has for your marketing funnels. They are called Product Blueprints – which are pre-made templates for your courses. Product Blueprints are structural skeletons of your courses.
Choose a “Product Blueprint” and Kajabi will create a structure for your course, including categories and posts.
In Kajabi, categories are synonymous with course modules and posts with lectures. You can add different content types like videos, pdf, txt, downloads, and more to your courses.
Kajabi has a partnership with Wistia for hosting your videos.
Kajabi however lacks attributes that can gamify courses.
For example, competitor platforms like Thinkific have features such as leaderboards, scores, and awards for the students enrolled which add a lot of interactivity to the courses.
Such gamification helps students stay motivated while attending an online course.
Bottomline: Kajabi allows 3 kinds of products to be sold using the platform. These are mini-course, evergreen training, and online courses. Kajabi’s sole focus is helping you create, market, and sell online courses.
Given that it allows for different kinds of courses to be uploaded and marketed through its various marketing features – Kajabi hence is a clear good choice for professional course creators.
You might want to create a membership site using Kajabi – so let’s discuss membership creation.
In Kajabi you can create different tiers of membership with differential pricing. This is possible with the “offers” section in Kajabi.
You can bundle up different sets of products under a membership. In fact, the membership creation process is almost like course creation in Kajabi.
You can also use a feature called “community” which can act as a forum for your members to discuss and get answers.
This can bring up the engagement levels for your membership. The community can also be offered as a membership add on to your customers.
You can also use Kajabi’s automation for engaging your members. For example: send an email to a student after set days of no activity by them. If you compare Kajabi with Podia, Podia lacks the advanced automations.
Bottomline: Overall Kajabi‘s memberships along with its other features can be a great way to create an engaging community, interactivity, and customizations with available product themes.
Design and customizations
Having a great looking front end is a prerequisite if you want to market your courses better. And, Kajabi comes with a website builder too for this very purpose.
First off, Kajabi is a hosted platform, so you won’t need to buy hosting for your website.
Second, your website will point to a mykajabi.com domain which you can point to a custom domain of your choice.
Third, you get an SSL certificate with your Kajabi site.
You can also remove the Kajabi branding from the website so that it will appear as if you have custom-designed it.
Now, Kajabi comes with a set of website themes. These themes can be set up with only 1 click. These help in getting a certain look, feel, and design for the website.
These themes are built off a flexible framework called Premier Theme. And the themes based on it are called Premier presets much like how you have filter presets in photography.
All presets and the premier theme has a clean minimalistic and modern design.
Once, you have settled on the theme and a preset, then you can further customize the site with a page builder. Page builder helps you narrow down on the desired look for your site pages.
We have discussed more the page builder in its section of this post.
You can also design a custom theme if you have technical chops available. Custom themes can be easily imported in Kajabi as well.
Bottomline: Other competitor tools in the market like Teachable, Thinkific, and Podia don’t offer much flexibility in designing and customizations of the website. This neat feature of Kajabi again makes it stand out.
Kajabi has a drag-and-drop visual builder for creating pages and website customizations.
This visual builder comes with pre-built elements. Some of these are accordions, videos, images, pricing tables, course lists, countdown timers, and much more.
You can add these page elements with 1 click. Also, you can further customize these elements. For example, you can add animations, customize padding, and optimize for mobile screens.
Further, you can also customize various page elements from the font to the color scheme.
In fact, Kajabi’s page builder can give ClickFunnels a serious competition if you’re only looking for selling digital products such as courses and memberships.
Bottomline: The landing page builder in Kajabi is quite user friendly. You can easily add sections, customize sections, and edit them from the left bar menu.
This makes designing any page in Kajabi according to your preferences of its appearance an easy task.
Kajabi has a hands-on approach in implementing marketing features in the app itself. Platforms such as Podia, Teachable, and others come up with limited marketing features and only focus on course creation.
But, Kajabi offers an entire suite of marketing solutions to market and sell your digital courses and build an audience.
So let’s see what Kajabi offers when it comes to marketing.
In Kajabi-speak, pricing your products is called an “offer”. Offers are pretty flexible and you can price your digital products free, one-time payment, subscription, or a payment plan.
you can set up subscriptions with weekly, monthly, or yearly payments and even offer a subscription to your memberships for a free trial to your audience.
Every offer is a combination of products that you want to sell to your customers for a specific price. And these can be priced in all major currencies such as USD, GBP, CAD, AUD, etc.
You can even pre-launch your courses by setting a specific time and date for the course to begin.
This helps you pre-sell your courses before actually investing time in teaching your students by creating course content.
You can also create coupons for your courses for individual buyers or in bulk. This helps in promoting your courses easily.
The pricing is very flexible in Kajabi and gives you the freedom to price your products.
Bottomline: Compared to its competitors like Teachable or Thinkific, Kajabi comes with excellent marketing options to market your courses.
Kajabi does more than only sending broadcast emails to your subscribers. While competitors like Podia and Teachable have basic email marketing capabilities – Kajabi takes this one step ahead.
For example, in Kajabi you can create an autoresponder email campaign to nurture new subscribers.
Not only that, but you can also create these campaigns based on how your users perform certain actions. Or go ahead with launching a new course to your existing subscribers with an autoresponder series.
You can not only set an unlimited number of emails in an autoresponder series but also at what time intervals these emails should go out. Additionally, user action based emails add another layer of automation.
It is like Kajabi’s email marketing is as good as any stand-alone email marketing solution in the market.
And, like any good email marketing tool, you can tag your users and segment them for marketing effectiveness.
Automations in Kajabi make it possible for you to automate your complete email marketing campaigns.
You can add/remove tags of users, move users to different email sequences, send customized emails based on user actions and so much more.
For example, If a student buys your course then you can move them to another email sequence to upsell another product or nurture and engage them further. This makes you effectively market profit and value maximizers in your business.
Bottomline: There are a lot of possibilities for effective marketing with Kajabi’s inbuilt email marketing and automation solution.
Analytics and reporting
Kajabi’s analytics and reporting have 3 broad areas. These are sales, affiliates, and marketing reports.
We have already discussed affiliate reporting in the affiliate marketing system section.
Sales reporting will show you sales day by day, month by month, and by the offer.
In the same vein, you can also see the marketing reports by opt-ins such as day by day, week by week, or month by month.
You can also see an overview of the entire sales report and membership acquisition.
You can integrate Kajabi with analytics tools such as Google Analytics and Segment. This enables you to see user traffic and activity reporting.
Bottomline: Kajabi’s reports are very easy to understand. You can view the reports by applying filters for easier analysis.
If you want your affiliates to promote your courses, then that’s possible with Kajabi. You can set up a proper commission-based affiliate program right inside Kajabi.
This includes the following:
- Adding affiliates
- Selecting products to promote for each affiliate
- Setup % commission for affiliates
- Make affiliate announcements
You can track affiliate sales with a dedicated dashboard for yourself. Even your affiliates get a private dashboard for the same. Inside a private dashboard for affiliates, they can track their stats, sales, and unique links.
However, the cookie tracking period is static at 30 days in Kajabi’s affiliate program system. Hence, you can’t have your own choice of the cookie tracking period.
Also, it doesn’t allow you to have a dedicated page for your affiliates to upload affiliate resources such as swipe files for promotions.
Bottomline: Very few course selling platforms come with an affiliate program system for creators. For example, Podia has such a feature while platforms like Teachable and Thinkific lack this. So, this is a nice value addition for seasoned course creators.
Kajabi offers inbuilt email marketing and automation. But, you can still integrate the platform with popular email marketing products.
Kajabi integrates with Zapier as well, which allows integrations with all marketing tools.
You can also integrate Kajabi with Google analytics and Segment analytics to track user visits and actions.
For payments, you can integrate Kajabi with PayPal and Stripe.
Bottomline: Kajabi integrates well with most of the popular online marketing platforms and servies. It also comes with Zapier integration.
Kajabi is one of the few platforms that offer 24*7 customer support on instant chat. Their customer team is known to be one of the good ones around. Instant chat support comes handy in times of critical product launch issues.
Additionally, you get access to Kajabi’s well-written knowledge base. If you’re stuck at something then you can make use of Kajabi’s assistant.
You can type out your search query in Kajabi’s assistant and it will show you a relevant tutorial.
Kajabi also comes with a Hero University which has a ton of resources and training for course creators. Training includes stuff like how to create an online course, how to market your first course etc.
Kajabi has a rewards program too, where they incentivize creators reaching certain revenue goals.
Kajabi has a strong community that has parlayed into a Facebook group only for Kajabi’s customers. There you can ask questions and interact with fellow Kajabi course creators.
Bottomline: Kajabi assists its customers with chat, email, and in-depth knowledgebase articles. They also have training and university.
- Basic: $119 (yearly) or $149 (monthly) per month
- Growth: $159 (yearly) or $199 (monthly) per month
- Pro: $319 (yearly) or $399 (monthly) per month
There is also an availability of enterprise pricing for larger custom Kajabi accounts.
You can also try Kajabi for 14 days to take it for a test drive before you commit yourself. You need to put in your credit card details for the free trial. But, do remember to cancel your subscription before the free trial ends, if you don’t want to continue.
There is a certain basic level of features available across all 3 pricing tiers.
First off, you get access to Kajabi’s Hero University, at least one Kajabi site, webinars, events. templates for landing pages and email marketing as well as quizzes and surveys for your courses.
You also have unlimited landing pages and emailers. And, Kajabi’s fantastic customer support team is available 24*7.
Now let us move onto the particulars of each pricing tier. It is as follows.
Basic: This plan doesn’t allow you to remove Kajabi branding from your products. But, you can create 3 products and pipelines, have 10000 contacts and 1000 active members. This plan is more suitable for beginners and you get only 1 user account to manage it all.
Growth: This plan allows you to finally remove Kajabi branding from your products. It makes space for up to 15 products and 15 pipelines.
You can have 25000 contacts and 10000 active members. You also get 10 user accounts for your team. Additionally, now with this plan, you can have an affiliate program system for your products and advanced automations.
This plan is suitable if you have started growing your online digital products business.
Pro: This top tier plan allows 100 products and pipelines as well as 100K contacts, and 20K active members. It comes with 25 user accounts.
Additionally, you can have access to Kajabi’s Experts academy and Theme editor. The theme editors allow you to change the appearance of your site.
Needless to say, this plan is suitable for those having a large list of contacts and active members to manage.
Bottomline: Kajabi costs very high. But if you are very serious about selling your courses then the advanced marketing features offered by Kajabi for the price really worth it.
How does Kajabi compare with its competitors?
Kajabi vs ClickFunnels
Kajabi is a platform for course creators to help them earn more by selling online courses. ClickFunnels is for digital product or service businesses to help build awesome sales funnels. Though, Kajabi also has a sales funnel builder tool called “Pipelines”.
The key difference being, Kajabi is more focussed on creating online courses. ClickFunnels focuses on building awesome sales funnels that help you sell more.
ClickFunnels’ use case includes selling all types of products from digital products to physical ones and even courses though you need a 3rd party app to host the course. In Kajabi, it is all about course creation and robust marketing around it.
Kajabi vs Kartra
I have reviewed Kajabi vs Kartra previously. Both Kajabi and Kartra are online business solutions that allow you to create and sell digital products. You can also create a website, marketing funnels, and email automation campaigns with both.
But there are key focus differences.
Kajabi is the first online course platform. It helps coaches and course creators create and sell online courses and memberships. Hence, the focus of Kajabi is course creation and delivery.
Kartra is a marketing platform first. But you can also create and sell courses and memberships using it. Hence, the focus of Kartra is to offer robust marketing tools.
Kajabi vs Thinkific
Kajabi and Thinkific have very different intended audiences.
First off Kajabi is for people who want to create and market online content and courses at a speed.
While Thinkific is for creators who are looking to build more structured courses.
Kajabi has a whole host of tools suite to market your courses well.
While Thinkific has basic marketing features with its tools such as email marketing.
Thinkific focuses more on the quality of instruction with its courses. It also provides a little bit of gamification with its courses as discussed in the post before.
While Kajabi is all about quick monetization of your course content.
